Where the conflict stands today

The 2026 US-Israel-Iran conflict has moved into a fragile, Pakistan-mediated ceasefire, but the blockade of Iranian ports continues to affect oil supply. The market is pricing a conflict that has stalled without being resolved.

For India, the operative risk is simple: an import-heavy economy faces a harder macro setup when crude remains above $100 and the rupee is under pressure.

Earnings impact: the 6-10% Nifty EPS scenario

At sustained Brent above $100, FY27 Nifty EPS growth could compress into the 6-10% range versus the 10-12% the Street was modelling before the conflict.

Crude is the key swing factor across OMCs, Reliance O2C, aviation, autos, paints, petrochemicals and broader consumption margins.

The macro arithmetic

India imports more than 85% of its crude. Every $10/bbl increase can widen the current-account deficit, add to CPI through fuel and freight pass-through, and pressure the rupee.

The government response through excise cuts, LPG subsidy and strategic-reserve release helps, but fiscal room is not unlimited.

Sectors absorbing the impact

  • OMCs: marketing margins compress when retail prices do not move with crude.
  • Aviation: ATF is a large share of operating cost, so one full quarter of margin pressure is likely.
  • Paints and petrochemicals: crude derivatives and imported inputs squeeze gross margins.
  • Autos and ancillaries: strong volume can still meet raw-material inflation in the following quarter.
  • Banks and financials: second-order risks include slower capex, rural stress and tighter-for-longer rates.

Renewables and coal

Renewables benefit from zero-fuel-cost economics in a way that becomes more visible when imported crude and gas spike. Order books and battery-storage adoption make the theme structural rather than only tactical.

Domestic coal remains India’s dispatchable energy-security anchor. Coal and renewables are not opposite stories in this cycle; one provides dispatchable power and yield, the other scales the zero-fuel-cost base.
