Futures & Options,
traded with precision.
Derivative contracts whose value comes from an underlying stock or index — used to hedge a position you already hold, or to take a view with a defined outlay.

Futures and options are not the same instrument
A future obliges you to buy or sell the underlying at a set price on a set date. An option gives you the right, but not the obligation, to buy (a call) or sell (a put) at a predetermined price — which is why an option is bought for a premium and a future is not.
Both are margined. Margin is the minimum amount blocked to hold the position, and it is what allows a large exposure to be taken against a smaller amount of capital. That is the whole appeal, and the whole danger.

F&O is the only thing we distribute where the regulator has published loss statistics. We would rather show them to you than not.
SEBI studies of individual traders in the equity derivatives segment have found that roughly nine in ten make a net loss over a year. That is the base rate you are trading against.
Margin lets a small amount of capital control a large position. It has exactly the same effect on the way down as on the way up, and losses on futures are not limited to the margin blocked.
A position not squared off or rolled goes to settlement. In stock derivatives that can mean physical delivery, and an obligation considerably larger than the premium paid.
The most common route into serious harm is using derivatives to make back a loss quickly. If that is the reason for the trade, it is the reason not to place it.
Start from the lot, not the rupee amount.
Every contract trades in lots fixed by the exchange. Pick one and the number of lots to see what you would control — and what has to sit in the account to hold it.

F&O, answered.
F&O trading involves derivative contracts whose value is derived from an underlying asset like stocks or indices. It allows traders to hedge risk or speculate on price movements.
Futures are contracts that obligate you to buy or sell an asset at a future date, while options give you the right — but not the obligation — to buy (call) or sell (put) an asset at a predetermined price.
Margin is the minimum amount required to enter an F&O trade. It allows traders to take larger positions with a smaller capital through leverage.
Yes. F&O trading involves higher risk due to leverage and market volatility. It is recommended for experienced investors with proper risk management strategies.
You need to activate the F&O segment in your trading account, complete the required documentation — which includes income proof, as the exchange mandates — and understand derivatives before placing trades.
Yes. The desk publishes derivative analytics, with real-time open interest, put-call ratio and volatility data built into the platform.
